Cliff Dochterman retired in 1990 after 20 years as executive vice
president of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California.
His 40 years in higher education administration included 20 years
with the University of California in Berkeley and two years with the
nationwide Education Commission of the States based in Denver. Colorado.
Dochterman has been active in many national, civic and professional
organizations. He has served as president of the 49er Council of the Boy
Scouts of America: President of the Stockton Chamber of Commerce; and
chairman of the San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation Commission. A
recipient of the George Washington Honor Medal of the Freedoms
Foundation of Valley Forge, Cliff has also been awarded three of
scouting's highest honors; the Silver Beaver, Silver Antelope, and the
Distinguished Eagle Awards.
A Rotarian since 1958, Dochterman was governor of District 5160 in
northern California during 1968-69- He received The Rotary Foundation's
Distinguished Service Award for his continuing humanitarian work
throughout the world.
He was one of the architects of Rotary's 3-H (Health, Hunger and
Humanity) program and has been recognized for his initial leadership in
creating the PolioPlus program. He has served as chairman of virtually
all of Rotary's planning committees in the past dozen years — the New
Horizons Committee, the Planning and Research Committee, the Public
Relations Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee and the
Twenty-First Century Committee.
During 1983-85, he was a director of Rotary International, serving as
Vice-President in 1984-1985. He served as President of Rotary
International in 1992-1993. He served as Chairman of Rotary's Centennial
Operations Committee that planned and executed the 2005 Rotary
International Convention in Chicago.
Cliff and his wife, Mary Elena. are members of the Rotary Club of
Moraga. California. Every year the Dochtermans charm PETS attendees -
Cliff with his humor and Mary Elena with her wonderful personality. Mary
Elena is served as President of her club in 2005-2006. |
